Canopius Group, a global specialty and P&C re/insurer, has appointed Rebecca Simeone as its new US Chief Risk Officer. Simeone will join the company on 8 September 2026 and will be based in New York.
Simeone will report to incoming US CEO Nadine Moore and Group Chief Risk Officer Sheldon Lacy. She will also become a member of the US Executive Committee, with responsibility for further developing Canopius’ risk management framework as the business continues to expand in the region.
Canopius said Simeone brings more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and financial services sectors. She most recently worked at Beazley as Senior Risk Manager, North America, where she oversaw financial, operational and regulatory risks across the company’s North American and Bermuda operations. Her responsibilities also included emerging risk assessments and regulatory engagement with insurance authorities.
In addition to her industry experience, Simeone currently serves as Vice Chair of the Enterprise Risk Management Committee at the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA).
Lindsay Astor, acting US CEO at Canopius, stated: “Rebecca’s appointment is reflective of the positive investment Canopius is making in the US. Scaling our business at the pace we intend depends on the risk and governance foundations beneath it. Rebecca will help us grow with discipline, compete in the areas where we can genuinely differentiate ourselves, and continue to meet our obligations to regulators and clients as the platform expands.”

Lacy commented: “Rebecca’s experience in horizon-scanning and enterprise governance will strengthen our exposure management capabilities and sharpen our forward-looking insights. Her appointment also deepens the global collaboration between our risk teams, ensuring the US benefits from our Group-wide expertise – and the Group benefits from hers.”
Simeone added: “I am excited to be joining Canopius at such an important point in its growth journey in the US. I look forward to working with colleagues across the US and around the world to further enhance Canopius’ risk capabilities, bring external data and insight into strategic decision-making, and ensure the business continues to meet the evolving expectations of regulators, clients and stakeholders.”
