AXA XL, the property and casualty specialty risk division of AXA, has promoted Steven Lawrence to the role of Head of Fine Art & Specie, UK & Lloyd’s, based in London, effective September 2026.
Lawrence will continue to act as Global Practice Leader for Jewellers, Specie and Cash in Transit, a role he has held since 2019.
In his new role, he will develop, execute, and manage the underwriting strategies for the firm’s UK & Lloyd’s Fine Art & Specie business.
Lawrence started his career in hull claims at W K Webster, a marine claims handling agent. He joined XL in 2003 as an Underwriting Risk Analyst, before joining the Fine Art & Specie business in 2005; his first role was as Underwriting Assistant.
Louise Nevill, Chief Underwriting Officer Specialty, UK & Lloyd’s, AXA XL, commented, “The Fine Art and Specie insurance market was valued at $5.18 billion in 2024 and expected to reach $10.2 billion by 2035, driven, in part, by the increased demand for art investments and the evolving value of collectables. Fine Art and Specie is, and continues to be, a valuable part of AXA XL’s UK & Lloyd’s Specialty business.

“Steven is a respected market figure, whose expertise and reputation make him the ideal choice to lead this business. Protecting high-value, often priceless and irreplaceable items requires a partner who is not only an expert in their field but also understands the true value and meaning of what is being insured.
“Steven will allow us to continue to offer exceptional service to clients, alongside a deep understanding of our clients most valuable items and an insight into the risk landscape they are navigating.”
